Quarantine Day 1

After a long much needed night’s sleep, I woke up around 7am and went in search of a cup of tea. I sat down to write a bit and after a while James woke up and joined me. James’s friend Phil called to check in on us and has promised to bring us a TV (we don’t have one at the moment). Furniture wise, we currently have a dining table and chairs, and beds. No sofa, arm chairs, or anything comfy to sit on really. So 10 days of quarantine is going to be spent figuring out how to get comfy with what we’ve got. Probably a mattress on the living room floor for the time being. While we’re currently lacking a few things, when the ship arrives on August 16th we will be inundated with furniture. We sent a sofa and an arm chair in our shipment, and the landlady also ordered us two sofas and an armchair. I’m not sure where we will put it all.

A little explore of the house and assessment of the kitchen revealed we are missing a few bits, so lists have been made. Kerry has gone in search of some towels for us (we only have one), and our landlady’s mother, Mrs. Flagg, brought over some clothes pegs so we could do some laundry.

We spent some time this morning doing crosswords from my decades old Star Trek Crossword Puzzle book (it’s 18 years old hahaha), and watched an episode of DS9 to figure out the answer to one of the crossword clues. I did some laundry once we had the pegs, and tidied up a bit. Penny brought us a yogurt maker (as yogurt is a scarce commodity right now), so later we are going to attempt to make some. We’re eking out activities so we don’t run out of things to do. It keeps raining on and off so getting things dry might be a bit difficult. I’m hoping we can get a dryer when we get out of quarantine. After having one for the last two years in Taiwan, I’ve become so used to being able to dry things quickly. Plus it’s so nice to put warm sheets on your bed in the winter.

Going to try cooking this evening. We have an electric oven and hob here which will be a change from our old gas burner that I’m used to. I really will miss that for cooking stir fries and other dishes that require you to switch between high heat and low heat quickly. Adaptation is the name of the game. I had to do it when we moved to Taiwan and had no oven. It will just take me a little time to figure out how to cook using what we have.

Not much more to report today. There are lots of wandering chickens and roosters on Half Tree Hollow which is fun. The Health Team drove past to make sure we were ok. I’m enjoying waving at people. Looking forward to getting out of quarantine and making some friends.
